Wilson has stated that he was hesitant to write a story about nano-technology, but was compelled to write Small Things after reading Joseph Conrad’s novel Heart Of Darkness, which deals with similar themes. Wilson hosted a series on the History Channel titled The Works in 2008, which examined and broke down the science involved with the inner-workings of everyday objects. Wilson is best known for his New York Times best selling novel Robopocalypse, which Steven Spielberg has been circling since 2013. The story is featured in the sci-fi anthology book Robot Uprising, and follows a disgraced scientist who is sent to an island that has been overrun by advanced forms of nano-technology that swirl through the jungle, consuming raw materials. Dan Wilson and Tom Vance will executive produce while Mike Ireland will oversee the project for the studio.
